Did you know that if you go to the South Korea, you can go to Heaven? While some people feel that Korea is a Heavenly place to be, and officials of the Republic of Korea would thank you for feeling that way, this is not the kind of Heaven that most people think about going to. No one has to die to go there. You don’t eat milk and honey when you are there. There are no pearly gates in this Heaven. So what kind of Heaven is this? And would you enjoy being in this Heaven?
김밥 천국
In Korea, there are places called 김밥 천국 (gimbab choengug). 김밥 (gimbab) is a Korean dish/snack where rice and other items are wrapped in seaweed. In Korea, you can get triangle gimbab at places like 7 Eleven or GS 25. Many restaurants have regular gimbab rolls as well. 천국 (choengug) is a Korean word that can mean Heaven or Paradise. As a nickname, some people call these restaurants GB Heaven. Some are open 24 hours a day, and some only serve gimbab.
Would You Enjoy Going to GB Heaven?
The answer to this question depends on you and how much you love gimbab. In my area, there is only 1 or 2 types of kimbab that are served in Korean markets and restaurants. 90% of the time, the gimbab I see only has rice and veggies inside of it. When it does have meat inside, it is normally spam or imitation crab meat. However, you can get different types of gimbab in different areas. For example, there is bulgogi kimbab, donkatsu kimbab and, my personal favorite, tuna fish kimbab, just to name a few. In some GB Heavens, there are a combo kimbab where you get a mix of different ingredients of, all in a single kimbab roll. It’s hard to get tired of kimbab when you are at a GB Heaven, or so I’ve been told.
If you know of a good GB Heaven to go eat, or have a type of kimbab you would like to try out, let me know in the comments down below. Who knows, maybe you’ll find your Heaven on earth in Korea as well. Click here for a video from Eat Your Kimchi about a GB Heaven in Seoul.
