Before going to bed last night, I saw the news that The Wonder Girls were being disbanded. You would think that a 195 cm tall grown man would care nothing about this news, but that’s not the case at all. K-POP is like other forms of music, it brings back memories of the past when you listen to it. For me, K-POP was something I discovered years before The Wonder Girls debuted. The acts I was listening to at that time included As One, Baek Jihyun, BoA, Epik High and Lee Hyori. Despite the memories the songs by those artist have given me, the classic album that would define K-POP to me is The Wonder Years. I can still listen to that CD all the way through without skipping a song. I still remember how proud many Korean Americans were of The Wonder Girls when they debut on TV in the U.S. to sing Nobody. While they may be lost in the shuffle of the growing K-POP scene, The Wonder Girls have left their mark on K-POP fans worldwide.
While there are some who will shed tears of sadness, others will be happy as The Wonder Girls transition into Wonder Women. Reports are that their final single will be released on February 10th, the 10 year anniversary of their debut. As for a reunion, don’t count on that anytime soon. Reports are that only 2 of the 4 members will remain with JYP. But one never knows what will happen in the future. The only thing that is known is that The Wonder Girls will be missed by fans all over the world. Be sure to share your favorite Wonder Girls memory in the comments below. 원더 걸스 정말 감사합니다.
